Concentration meditation is used in many religions and spiritual practices. Whereas in mindfulness meditation there is an open focus, in concentration meditation the meditator holds attention on a particular object (e.g., a repetitive prayer, a candle flame, a mandala or shape) while minimizing distractions; bringing the mind back to concentrate on the chosen object.
Many people find this meditation method more difficult because they can not seem to stop there mind from wondering. It's easier than you think. Whatever distracting thought or image pops into your head, just let it go and return your awareness to the object you were focusing on. The more you practice a particular meditative method, the easier it will get.
Meditation can be practiced while walking or doing simple repetitive tasks.
