Busy lifestyles and chaotic minds can leads to many physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual problems. Meditation can help clear the mind of mental clutter, and improve your outlook on life. It can also reduce or eliminate stress, free the body of tension, and promote a sense of calmness and self healing.

Meditation can benefit anyone, and is an excellent tool for self-exploration. It can expand and enlighten your mind in many ways. A extraordinary benefit of mediation practice is an increase in your spiritual awareness and connection to your higher self or spirit, and advanced meditation techniques can open up a whole new world of spiritual possibilities. Meditation is a tool that you carry with you throughout your life.

Many people are reluctant when it comes to meditation, or feel that it involves sitting in a pretzel like posture on the floor for hours at a time. This is of course, an advanced way to meditate, and yoga does have it's benefits, but meditation is something that can practiced by anyone at any time, and there are many different types and methods of meditation. Just relaxing your body and clearing your mind for a few minutes a day is a form of meditation.

A simple and quick form of meditation can involve one to just become aware of the tension in their body, and slowly relaxing to release it. The effect is similar to taking warm bubble bath or getting a massage. When your mind focuses on a particular part of the body, the blood flow to that part increases and cells receive more oxygen and other nutrients in abundance. Remember that meditation is a powerful tool that can bring the mind-body connection into balance.

Meditation can simply involve sitting still and clearing your mind of all thoughts, conucentrating on your breathing(slowly exhaling and inhaling), a allowing yourself to feel calm and relaxed. You can also get into a meditative state of mind by focusing on a beautiful thought or picture, visualizing colors of shapes in your minds eye, or by contemplating a complex concept such as the meaning of life.

You can do any simple meditation technique while sitting in a chair, lying down, or even while your walking, and you can meditate for as long as want to. Just remember to not to fall asleep when meditating and never meditate while driving or operating heavy machinery. :-)

The various techniques of meditation can be classified according to their focus. Two main types are "mindfulness"and "concentrative" meditation. There are also techniques that combine the two together.

In mindfulness meditation, one would position themselves comfortably and silently, centering attention by focusing awareness on an object or process (such as the breath; a sound like a mantra, koan or riddle-like question; a visualization; or an exercise). The meditator is usually encouraged to maintain an open focus. "Let it go and let it flow". The experience of this meditation is similar to "spacing out". Have you ever found yourself staring at something, while your mind was deep in thought about something else? Suddenly your awareness is snapped back into the present moment perhaps because you heard a noise or someone was calling your name.

Whereas in mindfulness meditation there is an open focus, in concentration meditation the meditator holds attention on a particular object (e.g., a repetitive prayer, a candle flame, a mandala or shape) while minimizing distractions; bringing the mind back to concentrate on the chosen object.

Many people find this meditation method more difficult because they can not seem to stop there mind from wondering. It's easier than you think. Whatever distracting thought or image pops into your head, just let it go and return your awareness to the object you were focusing on. The more you practice a particular meditative method, the easier it will get.

Meditation can be practiced while walking or doing simple repetitive tasks. In a form of meditation using visualization, such as Chinese Qi Gong, the practitioner concentrates on flows of energy (Qi) in the body, starting in the abdomen and then circulating through the body, until dispersed. Some meditative traditions, such as yoga or tantra, are common to several religions or occur outside religious contexts.

You will definitely notice a difference in your mind and body when you start to take meditation seriously, and practice in on a regular basis. If you are someone who already meditates, or feel you are spiritually awakened, you may not need to rely on meditation as much, or you may even decide just to use it whenever you are feeling negative, stressed out or physically tense. Meditation can be an excellent tool to use in order to open up, explore, and prepare the consciousness for other things like psychic abilities, astral projection, reiki, distant healing, remote veiwing, or creative visualization.
